Hi, Think i deleted the last one accidently whoops! I have a sierra mnr loom and im using savage swtiches. I was using a switching diode maplins no
QL80. Problem is where it keeps blowing so i can use my indicators but cant use the hazards. Is there anything else i can use that wont blow and does
it have to be switching or not?
cheers
Adam
it's only rated at 1/2 watt - that's why it fails.
QL81C - 3A Silicon Rectifier looks better.

Cheers i can see that now on the site but had been recommended to try it. does the switching nature of the component matter at all?
Adam
No- in this case the diode would just be acting as a one-way valve, allowing
current to flow in one direction but not the other.
Sounds good to me and for the money i cant really go wrong with giving it a try.
Thanks Again
Adam
I'm not surprised a IN4148 wasn't up to the job, it's a small signal diode with a maximum forward current of only 0.2 A, and
that's at 25 degrees C. If a diode is specified for switching operations, it implies it's a fast diode, for use at high frequencies.
The inrush current of a 21 Watt indicator bulb would probably be of the order of 10-15 Amps peak. A 3 Amp rectifier such as 1N5401 can take that sort
of surge current with no problems.
