Amp Gauge wiring

Sorry for such a dumb question, but how to wire an amp gauge in, i can't get mine to work.

It's wire in serial. IE split the wire you want to measure the amps in, put on connector to one terminal, one to the other. Job done!

I think you mean series......
What it means is you go throught the ammeter with the circuit and through the load to complete it.

I do indeed. Always though serial and parallel made more sense though (that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it!!)

Really best to try and avoid fitting an ammeter, these days with alternators doing the charging a voltmeter/batter condition gauge is the way to go.

I am with BT - don't bother.

the ameter will take quite large currents and ideally you do not want to introduce addtional circuitry or long wires in the charging cicuit.

a voltmeter will tell you if you alternator is charging; in fact the charge lemp will as well but on a much lower resolution.
