Ignition Coil

Am using ign set up v similar to old XR2, with electronic-type dizzie, and appropriate module.
Discovered I needed a 12v coil, or additional ballast resistor. Got myself a Lucas sports coil.

Recently, found sales ad which warned that this coil should NOT be used with OE systems.

Anyone know why not? Would prefer to avoid uncertainty and confusion, and prevent possible damage to module/coil/dizzie/me.

You need the original coil because the inductance-ressistance of the coil required for an electronic iginition system has to be taillored to the system.

Thank you, for this advice.

So, only have to locate an old XR2 Fiesta, in the local scrappies! Or verify the p/n of the corresponding ign coil.

Back into Google!!!

Metro used the same ignition module so the coil should work --- I think no ballast required.

If you get stuck I have spare dizzies and coils for both Xr3 and Xr3i
