Hmmmm
...they all do that sir!
(owner of Sweetpea2... with a loud fuel pump)

Though the fuel pump was put in by myself and not John so not insinuating anything

I have got a new pump but not tried it out yet as the bracket that currently securely holds the Bosch pump is too big for the replacement and not yet found some suitable foam to bulk it out

Its kind of comforting to hear the whine and I'm sure I will be paranoid that its stopped/failed eveytime I go out if I did replace it

My replacement one is one of the cheap ones from eBay with the blue body and will carry it in the toolbox as my pump has got increasingly loud over the last year and its tone changed dramatically a couple of months ago before I took it off the road for a minor re vamp -but willing to see how many more miles I can wring out of it

I blame myself for its impending premature death by trying to keep the 12mm input of the pump adequately fed from an 8mm feed from the tank, which when going round corners is not gauranteed to have any liquid available anyway and I KNOW I did run it dry a few times so the noisy pump serves me right

Have since bought and fitted a swirl pot with a 12mm output to see if the new one is happier once the Bosch one is dead

Regards
Rob

Replacement pumps from Pierburg come with a rubber sleeve that cuts down on the noise considerably.

Audible is fine but when other motorists start looking round there cars for the funny noise its too loud
i have always found the bosch pumps to be pretty quiet but the one john has fitted is very noisy,
i was thinking there must be suitable donor cars that all ready have a nice insulated external pump fitted from the factory.
will have a ebay search in a bit see what comes up under fuel pump.

Is it mounted using the original rubber lined clamps and cotton reel rubber mountings?

dlatch - 26/10/09 at 07:44 PM

yeah mike its fitted correctly so it does not vibrate, its just a noisey bugger

speedyxjs - 26/10/09 at 08:11 PM

But can you hear it when the engine is running? I cant

dlatch - 26/10/09 at 08:13 PM

yeah can hear it clear as day under normal running only when flooring it does it get drowned out by the engine/exhaust

all while wearing a crash helmet too like i said its noisy
