Repairing a light lens
lsdweb - 11/11/10 at 09:12 PM

Hi All

I need to repair a rear lens for my 26R (Elan) - new lenses aren't readily available (not in my price range anyway!) and one is cracked. I was thinking of trying to colour up some epoxy and patch it that way. The car will be hillclimbed not taken to shows!

Any thoughts?

I'll upload a photo if I can.

Came across this Epoxy repair for lenses

It will be the early pattern combined unit with the "pointy" ends for the life of me I can't remember what production car used them ----- the various other types of rear lamps used by Lotus I know the original model but not those.

If it were me I would be tempted to convert to any of the various round rear light Lotus also used.

Thanks guys - it's the Vauxhall FB VX/490 Lotus Lucas L684 Rear Light lens and I just found a secondhand one for £15. The round lights were a Series 1 (and some Series 2 fitment) - they used the lamps L551 (how much!) and the L539 indicators - not cheap either!

FB VX 4/90 --- it had different rear lights from the FB Victor VX was more complex design an inverted T shape but lower part looks the same lens,

I can't imagine how I would ever get anything done on cars without this site!

I've ordered a second hand lens and a repair kit :-)
