I have just read in this months Kit Car mag the IVA examiner disconected the brake fluid level sensor so as to test the light on the dash. Surly this can't be right as if you disconect the sensor there is no way of making a circuit. I have wired mine so the light comes on if I press the top of the brake res or press the dash test switch/light. Have I wired it up wrong or has the mag reported it wrong. If my wiring is wrong does anyone have a picture of the correct way to do it.

thought they normally just lifted the sensor out the top of the resevoir? and you have to have a test button, so i think you're right.

these magazines have a habit of getting these things wrong, or mis-quoting sometimes i fear

It must be possible to check the fluid relative to the manufacturer’s specified minimum level on all brake fluid reservoirs by the actual fluid level being visible through a transparent section of the reservoir, with the minimum level marked permanently on to this section. As an alternative, a red warning lamp (see figure 3) must be capable of illuminating when the reservoir fluid falls to the minimum level.

Where a warning lamp is provided as the only means of checking the fluid level without opening the reservoir, it must be secure, operational, visible during daylight and darkness from the driving position, and fitted with a “test facility” that enables its operation to be checked from the driving position without opening the reservoir.

seems to say you don't have to have a warning light if the resevoir is see through, and a minimum level marked. its a good idea to have one, but not absolutely necessary. hmmm

Yours is correct and the mag' have incorrectly reported what was done.
They check the test switch works (on dash or h/brake) and then either press the cap test button if fitted or remove the cap to check the float switch works.

Thanks guys, I thought so, I had read the manual and I had got it right, when I read the artical I thought and hoped they had got it wrong.
