OK, I'm having a few problems with my too-clever DIY speedo sender at the moment, so I have to consider using a proper CA sender. This is the
"4 magnets and a sensor" type.
Where's the favourite place to put the magnets and sensor in a Locost with an Escort rear axle?
David
(I know there was a recent thread on this subject, but that talked about gluing the magnets to a rear drive shaft - and I ain't got access to
mine
)
i put them on the prop on my live axled one, made a chopper for the front part of the prop
Mine doesn't have magnets, it mounted off the back of the gearbox, and I made up a toothed plate which fitted over the front propshaft splined
thing, and tack welded it.
Seems very steady and accurate..........
If you mount it on the prop won't it have to allow for the diff ratio? Glue them to the rim or the brake drum.
Whoopie!
The other day I sent an email to CAI (a.k.a. Greenguages, a.k.a Smiths Instruments) regarding my speedo problem, and next morning I got a reply with
an invitation to phone their techie person. We discussed my problems, agreed that my home-made sender was suitable (I'd proved it was working)
and he gave me a few suggestions to explore.
Checked my switch settings and found that I'd set switch 10 on when it should have been off - I was reading my speed divided by 9! Reset the
switches and it now works OK.
I was really impressed with their customer service, and I'll tell them so tomorrow.
I have a few more things to fix, then I can consider applying for the SVA... AARGH!

some-one dropped the plug off my speedo onto a red hot pinto exhaust and melted it so I emailed CAI sales explaining I needed a new plug they said
they didn't supply direct... half an hour later i received an email from speedy cables requesting my home address , 4 days later a new plug
arrived FOC would reccommend both these firms

by the way CAI's info for calibrating and installing a speedo is better on the website than the bit of paper you get
