Battery recomendation please?
nickw2000 - 7/3/12 at 07:55 PM

What battery will give me the greater starting power and even if the battery has had abit of a drain from
An electric reverse system on a BEC, That I can be confident my battery will start my engine back up after using it.

I was thinking odessey p680? Or a standard car battery with 330 amps?

Can anyone recomend anything please that's a reasonable price?

Cheers

Can you not just run the engine whilst reversing so the alternator does the hard work not the battery?

That's a bit hit or miss I'm afraid, if the voltage drops below a certain point the ECU shuts down and the engine stops

Im not bothered if I have to turn the engine of to reverse because it's only used once in a blue moon, but need a Battery that can withstand the elec reverse and still have enough power to start the car back up

Yep under heavy load even big fully charged healthy battery from diesel with a high ah and cca rating will get pulled down to 11v a normal sized battery from a 1600 car will get pulled down to 10v and the largest large motorcycle battery will swiftly drop to 9v after a few seconds.

Maybe just rev it when you reverse like you would if you were using a standard geared reverse?

With reverse motor operating the voltage will plunge the bike alternator will try and pull the voltage back up by pumping out amps however bike charging systems are much smaller, simpler and more fragile than car systems and they aren't designed push out massive amps. Also the additional alternator load on the engine will make it stall as bike engines tend not to have idle speed control.
