Poor Spark
OrangeJuiced - 20/4/13 at 04:26 PM

I currently have a very weak spark being generated by the coil. The Coil and ignition module are brand new. It’s a pinto running a standard ford distributor.
It has been running rough when hot for the last couple of trips hence the new module and coil. Currently it won’t even start. Any ideas or helpful suggestions would be much appreciated?
Cheers.

New plugs?

MAte had similar problem on his bike. Said to him to look at coil packs as it was only a problem when hot and riding, not when standing still. He insisted on stripping the carbs, which unsurprisingly made no difference. Plugs were humped

Plugs and leads are 100 miles old so should be fine.
I think it's before the ht leads as its the sparks from the coil are weak.

Do you have a ballast resistor fitted to the coil? Maybe faulty condenser. Other than poor connections I can't think of anything else.

I was going to suggest this but was unsure if the ignition module did this portion of it, or just the timing. On a straight forward points/distributor set up, I'd say it was the condensor.
