Hi guys
i'm out in the garage trying to get an old pinto engined robin hood going. anybody tell me how to check a coil? i'm not getting a spark.
any help appreciated
If its on points ignition start with the points -- are you getting a spark at the points ?
Put a plug lead into the king lead hole and a plug in the other end, earth it and turn the engine over.
Aha it works! coil wasn't earthing properly! thanks guys!
Little tip for those running the Cortina Motorcraft type Pinto distributor with points . Remove or bipass the little black box in the low tension lead from coil neg. and make a small earth lead between one of the points securing screws and the distributor base plate screws . This cuts down the voltage drop across the points and helps with starting .
