What Fan
piddy - 31/1/06 at 01:08 PM

I'm off to the scrappies later in the week to get an Electric radiator fan from a tin top.
Anyone got any advise as to what cars to look at for a suitable fan?.
I've been told Renault extra van but these must be rare I think.

Blower or sucker?

I'm struggling myself.

Blowers are:

Pug 205
Pug 106 (early or late can't remember)
Renault Clio

Quite a bit of placcy to be stripped off as well.. :-(

Or Ebay for Pacet or Kenlowe

early pug 106's are suckers, late are blowers.

Hi.
The rad is an escort.
I'm not sure yet if it will be a sucker or a blower.
sucker I hope.

sucker v blower - it doesn't make that much difference; space in you engine bay will dictate the type.

More important is cowling - you want to ensure that the maximum amount of air blow by the fan goes where it is supposed - the radiator.

Mondeos have large 16 inch fan with cowl but the cowl may be too large; rovers 200/400/600 are another good source; jap cars nissan/daewoo have small 13 inch fans.

You can reverse the wires to make a blower suck and vice versa; workable but since blades are optimise to spin in one direction, it won;t be quite as efficient; whether it makes a difference, who knows?

Have a look at RH lolocost site - they sell honda 13 inch fan with cowl, very light, and very cheap. I have one of these fitted to the front of my radiaotr (capri I believe) and have extended the cowl with ali metal since there is a chasiss rail in the way.
