i am having problems with water escaping from the expansion tank on the cooling system. the temp guage shows 90c when up to temp but am having
problems when getting back from long runs and begin to slow down. The system looses water through the cap. i have reduced the level of water in the
tank which has cause some inprovement. But what i want to do is hard wire the radiator fan so that i can operate it manualy. if i create a circuit
that overides the thermostat with a toggle switch so that the fan can be turned on and off. Can i use 8 amp cable?? With a 10 Amp Toggle switch??
any help appreciated (being a novice)
Cheers Kev
you should have a relay wired via the thermoswitch all you have to do is activate that.
all you need is a small switch and small cable
have you tried replacing the cap

Cheers never thourght about getting a new cap. Doh
i have some 8 Amp wire lying around, should this be ok??
you need to find which relay controls the fan
then you need to find out if its neg or pos switching, check at the thermo switch
which ever one it is you need to pass that through aswitch to the relay
85 and 86 is the switching side of a relay ill see if i can find a digram will maeke more sense
i was thinking of creating a circuit that bridged the thermo switch so when switch on fan works??
forgot to mention my thermoswitch? is the type that is mounted directly on the raditor
Take a look at this circuit; It uses a Lucas 3-way switch (on-auto-off) to control a fan via a Kenlow thermostat. Modify it for your purpose.
and how it looks when fitted.
Oh, by the way, are you having these problems when driving or when stationary? If latter, then then you have a cooling problem; too small or blocked
radiator possssibly. You could try the 'water wetter' stuff; supposed to help, and run 50/50 anit-freeze/water mix.

I could do with a bit of help too as I want to do a similar thing.
I have the Toyota water / rad fan sensor from the Mr2 and I want this to automatically control the rad fan but I also want a manual overide via a
Savage switch. I was simply going to wire two feeds (one from the manual switch and one from the sensor to the power feed side of the fan. Is this a
crap idea and do I need to fit a relay somewhere?
Fan is a Pacet item.
Rich - who has no idea about electrics!!!!!!!!!

Glad to see i am not the only one!!
Cheers for the Help everyone
i thourght a relay was people running around with a stick!
i have decided to unconnect the thermostat/switch and extend the wires back to the dash and put a switch in place of the themo switch.

What engine, radiator, header tank. Is the pressure cap on the rad or tank. What thermostat rating are you using. Take the stat out and drill a couple more 3mm holes in the seating lip and make sure you put it back in the right way round if it's a pinto engine and undo the bleed on the top of the stat housing when you fill it back up. I only have a manual switch on mine and don't need to use it very often at all.
its the cylinder head
