(Stupid) relay question
chrsgrain - 20/6/06 at 04:49 PM

Hi all....

very basic and probably daft relay question;

Is it ok to loop from pin 30 to pin 85 and then put the switch controlling the relay in the output from pin 86 on the way to earth?

I can't see why not - but not played with relays before and I thought i ought to check!

Should be okay, as long as you remember you have done this!

I did this for my fan relay, the rad switch being the earth route.

Should not present any problems as long as you are aware that any internal short circuit of the coil (unlikely in a plastic case) would result in the fuse blowing. The switching of the earth wire is quite common in automotive wiring and not just in relays (courtesy lights for instance)

that is fine; pin 87 becomes the output.

there is no voltage when the coil is not switched otherwise you get 12 V when the switch is closed.
