Can anyone give advice, used damp start to get car re-started after being caught out in the rain, it started fine then their was a burning smell now it will not start.I know nothing about electrics, Where should i start. Colin

Look where the smell came from. If it was that strong you should see some evidence like melted wire or something. Failing that look in the distributor cap.

First place to start is remove a spark plug and reconnect the cable to it once removed. Hold the spark plug with a pair of insulated pliers on a bare piece of metal on the engine and get someone to turn over the engine. You will be looking for a spark across the spark plug electrode. Let me know if you have a spark.... u2 if you want.
