right my alternator has decided to stop working, the battery light now wont come on with ignition and the voltage stays at 12v. the alternator has
been working and voltage has been at 14v so nice and healthy.
is there any way i can test the alternator and/or recon it? or should i be looking for another?
cheers

is the body making a good earth?is the bulb working?
tried earthing the body to chassis and still nothing and swapped the light with the working light used for the headlamp tell tale still nothing.
james
is the ignition live feed to the alt still good?
earth the alt body to battery earth terminal and see what gives
3 Steps to check charging circuit wiring
Step 1: Check the alternator casing is properly earthed.
Step 2: Check there is a 12v supply comming to the B+ positive terminal (the heavy wire which normally goes to the battery via the starter)
Step 3: Check the charging light circuit by disconnecting the small wire from the alternator (which goes to the lamp) and touching it to the
alternator casing or a known good earth, this should cause the charging light to illuminate.
If these 3 points check out ok I would be suspecting an alternator fault.

Stick a volt meter to the alternator terminal itself. that will bypass the wiring to the battery, obviously make sure it has a good earth!!!
