Honda alternator

Hi

What are the chances of me being able to repair/overhaul an alternator from a Honda CRX engine myself?

Or is it best to try for a recon.

Cheers

Mark

Have you ever looked inside an alternator? They are like Swiss watches nowadays

I wouldn't mess about with it and just get a recon - a lot cheaper in the long run.

Difficult to say without knowing what you know about alternators

It is not rocket science so if you have some means of testing it and some knowledge of electrics plus mechanicl skill (it is is meachanicla fault) then quite high.

If electrical, the replacement parts may be hard to find (although you should be able to use parts from another alternator since they all work in the same way?) and then the cost of them.

I amy be cheaper to get one from a scrappy or recon/new/eaby one.

Thanks for replies.

Its difficult to say until I can get the thing out of the engine bay (no room at all).

The car has been stood for a few months and as a result the alternator has seized.

I'm hoping to be able to free it and with any luck it should work but if it's electrical I'll probably go for a scrap/recon one.

Cheers
