1600 Pinto-carbs and standard dizzy


Logic tells me that the "start" position on the key should feed a +ve supply to the started solenoid....

But am I right in thinking that the "start" also supplies a +ve feed into the eleconic gubbins assosiated with the engine?

Im trying to work around a half arsed attempt at wiring the car by someone else and he had wired up this +ve feed from the "start" position into the largish plastic block mounted on an ali plate...

Anyone have any thoughts on this? is this usual practice?

Usually the only thing thats connected to the start position is the feed for the starter solenoid. As the wire is only live when you hold they key in the start position.

Everything else that needs a 12v supply while the engine is running should be fed from the ignition position on the switch.

At least on my Sierra the +ve start feed also goes to the electronic ignition module. This increases spark power while cranking to make staring easier.

Ahh, forgot about the 'ballast resistor'. Ignore my previous comment

I was suspecting it was something like that....

Makes sence that it would boost the spark whilst its cranking it over...
