neutral wire confusion (bec)

just as a tempory measuere while i design my new dash i need to fit an led to show im in neutral, bored of stalling it on junstions. But i was sure that all bike engines neutral wire just switch to earth when in neutral? however i connected an 12 volt led up and its resonably bright (10 volts) in any gear and normal brightness (12 volts) in neutral.

whats going on?

Sounds strange! AFAIR all are a switch to earth.... You shouldn't get anything in any gear other than neutral... I'd agree- check the engine earthing ? floating earth relative to the engine or something wierd like that...

The neutral wire on some bikes also is used for the sidestand etc as this is part of the safety start procedure. Neutral, side-stand up and clutch lever pressed.

If yours is this type sounds like you are getting a rogue feed from somewhere else.
