Coolant Temp Sensor Issues
TangoMan - 26/3/07 at 09:13 PM

Anyone else converted tried using a Zetec coolant temp sensor with gauges for a Pinto.

My gauge just registers when the engine is at 96 degrees.

I would try a Pinto sensor but the Zetec has a plastic thermostat housing.

What have others done to overcome. Any help would be appreciated as I have just paid for a trackday and am reluctant to do it with no temp gauge.

If you can measure the resistance across the pinto and zetec sensors when in the same liquid (ie at the same temp) then you can use some resistors in parallel/series to make the gauge read OK.

At 27'C the Zetec one should be 27K resistance.

Are you sure the Pinto one wont fit?.I thought that the plastic housing has a metal bush moulded in for the thread, if so you may be able to retap it .
If this is not possible then you could fit an adaptor in the top hose as sold by Burton power, rally design etc, I made one from a bit of 45 mm alloy bar turned down to 32mm each end to fit the hose and tapped for the sensor.
