Google for Ghostscript & ghost view

PDF files are Postscript, the procedure is you create a non existant Postscript printer set to print to file (use a name like anything.ps)

Then open this file in Ghostview and print to Ghostscript to create the pdf file.

IIRC that works but the files are big- an Adobe PDF document can contain text and graphics stored seperately whereas the Ghostscript / Ghostview combo creates a picture out of the whole page..... Or at least that what seems to happen from my experiments before....

Not really a PDF file is just a Postcript file in a sightly different format.

Another alternative to Ghostview which is supposed to be more usr friendly is pdfcreator

Also Open Office Writer will write PDF files and export other documant formats to PDF
