Blue wire
ChrisW - 6/8/03 at 09:35 AM

On my Escort loom I have a 'spare' blue wire I've labelled 'solenoid'. It's not the start feed or the thick power connection - what else connects to it???

what terminal has it got,if its a big ring then its a feed to summat,a lucar or coil type end and its for ballast start what you dont need.

It's a push fit jobbie - very skinny wire. There's a chance I may have labelled it wrong and it might be from the alternator (making it the charge light?)

on my sierra loom there is indeed a blue wire and a blue/white wire from the altenator, one is indeed for the dash warning and the other goes to the carb (choke i think.)

try it for fit on the alt, i suspect the alt must have a wire to the dash so if there are no others then that must be it!

loose wires seem to either sort themselves or not be needed!

again on a sierra the only wires near the starter are the solenoid one, the main feed and the earth, plus a couple of sensor wires above! good luck...

some had a spare coming from the alternator to work the auto choke, ind wire for alternator will be in the multi plug

Good point! I'll get the multimeter out tonight then!

Problem solved. Found the loom extension for the alternator - it attaches to the starter's live feed and has a plug for the mystery blue wire. Looks like it was the charge light after all
