Can anyone help. I've got a brand new battery straight from manufacturer in Romania or summat like that and its arrived dry so I Filled it with distilled water and thought I was away. Not so, it needs acid (Ithought the mixture of the water and plates would create an acid) so my question is where would I get acid to fill the thing? Anyone?

I think you can buy acid from chemists. Maybe not a high street Boots but older traditional place should be able to help. Do you know what type you need and what concentration? Was there not a shet with the battery to explain what you should do? Im wondering if motor factors buy them in dry and fill themselves - maybe they sell it too.

I rang round my local motorbike shops and found one who said they could fill it up. In the end they did it for nothing..... I think normally they charge a couple of quid.

interestingly I though that too, but a google seems to show you need acid.

"Conventional lead/acid and Self-sealed maintenance-free batteries are delivered 70% dry charge. After filling with the correct battery acid we recommend that you fully charge the battery before installation. "

Battery acid is approx 35% sulphuric acid which is nasty stuff. I would get someone to fill it for you if you can. It isn't the sort of stuff you should leaving lying about in the garage. If you are tempted to dilute your own from conc sulphuric remember to slowly add the acid to the water NOT the other way round!

I'd second visiting motorbike place, and get them to fill it..

Third for a local bike shop. I bought a battery for £1 from one of my local bike shops ebay clearance section. Took it to another shop and got it filled up for a couple of quid.

locost way would be to buy battery from halford, drain off sufficient acid and then return it for a refund saying it is 3rd one you bought that is duff, you want your money back or else

I've got some sat in the corner gathering dust. We don't use it anymore and can't get rid of the stuff. Your welcome to some but getting it from the tub to your battery might be tricky as the pump is duff (its been idle so long), buts whats life without a little danger!

Yep still got it thanks. I'm just going to try and find out why there were no acid in it in the 1st place then I'll be round yours sucking acid through a pipe. Cheers mate.
