Hi all
I'm in the process of fitting a new dash and I've been thinking about changing or modifying my dials. I currently have a Smiths speedo, temp
gauge, oil pressure gauge and fuel gauge. My rev counter however is by Elliot - which is a nice tacho and not cheap, but doesn't match the
rest.
I was thinking about making my own dial faces for them by use of a scanner, photoshop and a printer, but now I'm not so sure.
If I sold the lot on ebay do you think they would fetch enough to buy a Vapor or Acewell electronic gauge. And if I did that what's involved in
connecting up to my existing cables?
Or should I just butcher the Smiths and Elliot gauges and proceed as planned!
What would you do?
I reckon you'ld get enough for a Vapor dash (quite cheap) based on the going rate for dials on Ebay.... (bizarely quite high!!)...
hmmm - I think I'd want at least an Acewell and preferably a Koso. Doubt I'd raise that much for my dials.
See if Caerbont (smiths) will change the face of the elliot tacho for you. May only be £20. The tech guys name there is Niel Meekin.
Regards
Dave
You would need to print onto glossy (photographic) paper otherwise it will look like someone has stuck on cheap paper labels. You would need to test
a sample to see if it fades in sunlight.
If it process requires removing the needle, then
a) you may fiind the needle is very hard to remove without breaking/bending something
and
b) you need to put the needle back in exactly the same position as there is a hair spring to keep the needle accurate to the display, but I guess you
could move the display itself to calibrate it.
simplest solution is to sell the Elliot tacho and buy a Smiths tacho? The Elliot should pay for about 1/2 the price of t he Smiths.
