Sierra stalks query
davrus - 12/9/10 at 11:20 AM

Hi ya, i am planning my wiring in advanse and although i have wired these up before i am suffering from complete memory lapse.

My queary is the head lights.

How does my headlamp feed go to the other stalk as i cant see a wire labeled headlights coming out of the headlight stalk but i can on the other stalk.

the pic below has the same colour wires as mine so i am asuming this is the diagram.

The only thing that i can think of is that it is a switched earth opposed to switched live. If that is the case what terminal on the relay does 56B go to.

Many thanks in advance

as you say the setup is a "switched" earth so you are supplying "which-ever" relay you operate with a earth signal, so each relay will be wired as per normal .

on your diagram "15" is the main EARTH IN
this is then fed to all other outlets when you push the correct action with the stalk.

and all 56 does is supply earth to the other set of stalks

Automotive relay pins are labelled with numbers which indicate what their purpose is and the relay pins have a standard code as follows:

Coil

85: Ground - Black/Brown wire
86: +12V - Fused Supply / Ignition live etc

Contacts

30: Common - (POWER FEED)
87: Normally Open (POWER OUT)

so in YOUR case (typically)

56(a) will feed to 85

Thanks for your imput.

Just a couple more questions. I have had a little play with my multimeter and my swich seems to be using (pin 31 flying lead to earth) to switch dip beam. So where do i conect it to as i see pin 56b goes to the relay?

Also i am not fitting wipers so will be cutting the stalk off, Plaese can some one tell me what wires i will not need to use, obviously i wont need thew ones labeled wipers but is there also any earths or lives that i dont need to conect?

Hope that all makes sense
