Right then, really getting into this gauge thing now, but need a bit of help!

I have gathered info about the gauges i have bought and have found the following

They are Stewart Warners (cheers for the input)

They were made in 1997

And have the part numbers

I now need to match the corresponding senders to them but having difficulty due to the age.

Has anyone got an old brochure, magazine etc that i could try and match the part numbers upto, or even better the specification of the gauge/sender.

If i can't get this or the actual SW senders, how can i work out the operating range (in ohms) of each gauge so that i can get a compatable sender?

Help would be much appeciated

you need a potentiometer (a volume control to non leccy types) - I would guess to be safe two or three of say

220r
and
1k ohm

take a look on www.farnell.com

or your local Maplin - or buy a catalog from wh smiths - who used to stock them last time I looked in the magazine section.

The pot will have three connections. use one of the outer ones and the centre pin. connect to where the sensor would have been, and slowly sweep the pot through various positions. When you get the max and min readings, take the pot out of circuit and measure with an ohm meter.

Found a supplier that can supply senders that read up to 40 psi only and output the full range of ohms for the guage!
