Mitsubishi Alternator on pinto
Hi all,
The PO of our mk appears to have fitted (including fabricated bracket) a mitsubishi alternator to the pinto. Is this a well known option?
I understand that this will have been done due to the ford one interfering with the chassis.
The alternator has 1 large white wire on its own. Then a thin white with red stripe, and thin black with white stripe together on a plug.
Can anyone advise what each of these wires are? Looking at the sierra wiring diagrams it looks like the original would only have had 2 connections?
Bit stuck with this, a quick mess around with a meter (with engine running) revealed nothing.
cheers
Dan

I could be wrong but, the two thin wires, one will be for the dash light and the other will probably be a switched live from the ignition to excite
the alternator.
Thats how it works on mine (daihatsu alternator)

That sounds reasonable - in the file we got with the car there is info on daihatsu alternators so im guessing he was going along the same lines.
Now I need to work out which one of the two needs a live?
