Gear selection indicator on an R1
Is it possible to fit a gear selector indicator on a 2001 R1 carbed engine
Would be nice to know what gear i am in as i can never tell and keep looking for 7th!!

can these things be used on car engines? sure i could just look at the gearstick if i ever needed to, but it would be cool

Yes. Takes a reading from the tacho and the speedo (assuming the speedo is electric) and "learns" the gears from there...

mm cool. just coz it says it works with 'most bikes' but i suppose it'll work with some mods to the wiring, rather than just simple
plug and play like it would on a bike

The acumen unit guven by Chippy can be bought with a wiring harness to fit straight into the R1 loom - it's about £20 more for the loom, but
it;s what I'll be doing to keep life nice and easy.

Or... for a locost option there's a PIC based gear indicator on my website... Works off the neutral light and microswitches on the gear
stick....
