Shift light, which one would you choose?
I have an output from my magic sbd spark box for a shift light and was thinking of using either one of these
click me
Which one would you use?
I like the size of the small one but the bigger one would be better during the day as it would be brighter.
What does everybody think?

Your sense of humour was obviously too subtle Paul!
The bigger one will give as much light as the smaller one. Theyre all ultra bright LEDs, and personally, i think would be a distraction rather than
an aid.
Dont forget, youre not going to be shifting on the light itself, but with the noise of the engine and the Rev Counter, so you dont want the shift
light to be too distracting.
Personally, id go for a programmable sequential shift light for the sake of £50.

Really? Never looked at a rev counter while I'm driving (completely useless piece of equipment IMO) much too busy looking at the road.
I shift on engine note and experience when driving normally, but if I were trying for maximum speed I'd be shifting on a shift light -
that's what it's for - if you don't use it then it's just pointless weight.

I didnt say that i wouldnt use the light at all did i. Read it again, and dont be too quick to jump in with your mouth open.
I agree that watching the road is a necessity, but if youre using a correctly set up shift light on the road, (which youve said you need to watch at
all times) then chances are youre outside the law, and not driving safely. Driving behaviour reminiscent of Boy racers perhaps?

OK, read it again. Which part of "youre not going to be shifting on the light itself" am I miss-understanding. That's why I
started "Really?" Note the question mark. If you'd prefixed with "On the road" then I'd not have said a word

On this we agree completely, you're never going to be going for maximum speed on the road unless you're an idiot. A shift light is a
race/hillclimb accessory only IMO, would be a good idea to be able to turn it off when you're not on the track.

I've got the first one - set up to be both a shift light (green) and an oil pressure warning light (red). Megasquirt triggers the shift light,
and the oil pressure switch feeds the warning lamp (mounted on the screen upright) as well as a dash mounted light.
For the money, it's really good. You can trim the brightness by using different value dropper resistors in series with the positive feeds to the
cluster.
Recommended!
