sierra ignition switch current rating?

having just seen the post regarding running the starter solenoid thru the ignition switch, does anyone know what current the sierra column ignition switch is rated to (in position 2 specifically)? can i just run my ignition live wiring straight thru it or is it best to use it to switch a relay?

Cheers.

As the standard Sierra setup does not uses a relay there is no reason to use one - that includes the starter solenoid too.

eeek, thats a lot of current, I'd add the caveat that make sure your cables can handle it. Things like the Premier Wiring Loom probably expect a solonoid.

AFAIK every setup uses a solenoid for the starter - just not a relay for the solenoid as it probably draws around 8 Amps which any 0.5mm2 cable and switch should easily handle. The starter motor can draw up to 700 Amps which is why the solenoid is there in the first place - it is just another form of relay.
