Vicki loom noobie!!!
Hello! I have just bought a brand new Robin Hood Vicki loom. My knowledge of car wiring is stripping the sierra - so none then really...
Anyway what i want to know is what colour wires fix to:
Alternator
Horn
Coil
Tacho Pickup (where is this?)
Starter motor
Handbreak
Fog light
fuel sender
No plate
Alot of stuff there, some of which is already attched but want to make sure its right.
Also i recieved two relays both with 30,85,86,87 attacments. do i need both - one for dip and one for main beam - also i seem to be missing a relay -
49,49a,31 for the Flasher relay? I geuss i need to get hold of this.
As much help as possible is greatly appreciated - lets get this car started!!
Regards Matt

Hi Matt - did you not get the big diagram with the loom?
It does contain the colours on there that you need - albeit not very clearly.
I (my mate Doofus) spent quite a long time figuring out the loom and hacking bits into it and out of it.
To be honest - once you have identified all the wires - masking tape and a pen to write on them - it isn't too bad with regards to wiring.
As for the relays - I think it is dependent upon which Sierra steering column switchgear you have? Later variants required the relay pack etc, whereas
I'm led to believe the early ones didnt. Mine was a later one that required the relay pack.
Sorry that's not much more help - but some colours on my loom were handwritten - it seems they change them if they run out of other coloured
wire - so I wouldn't trust somebody elses loom - best bet is to spend a couple of hours figuring out yours
Murray
P.S. Fuel sender we had to add in, along with Reverse light etc and don't forget if you are using magnets for speedo - to get some shielded
twisted pair - and run this through the car - gives a much better signal with no bounce or variance on the gauge!

Yes i did get the diagram but its not entirley clear as you say.
My main trouble is identifying wires for alternator coil and starter motor and batt, everything else is pretty ok at this moment in time!
Thanks for your help
anyone else want to chip in...please!!

Starter motor - you make your own wires from the battery - get some proper starter motor wire - it's big current! You just need the relay switch
from the ignition to the starter.
Alternator should be a pretty substantial wire as well. It's def on there - I remember finding it on the diagram - try looking near the bottom
right hand corner on the diagram.
Why don't you just ring Robin Hood? or email them?

Hi mate.
Lay the loom out on the floor as per the diagram. Follow it through with the wire colours and label it up. It makes it much easier to fit.
What engine have u got because the wires fall in different places.

Lay the loom out. From memory the Alternator wires are at the end of the loom. Thick Brown, Thin Brown, Thin Brown/Yellow.
IIRC

the starter is the red one with the eyelets on which go to the main terminal and a white with a spade on for the solenoid. The battery cable u need
to purchase. This goes from the battery pos to the main starter terminal. The battery neg u need aswell. This goes from the battery to the chassis
and another to the engine.
The coil wires i think are the white wires with eyelets on. Ones white the other is white with a black trace. They are near the starter wires.

Use a volt meter to check for continuity.
