Cheap Hall-Effect Sensor
Is this suitable for a speedo application? Comments welcome..

Could be.
Does'nt give much info though does it?
ie working voltage, distance to target.
I see theres an infra red optical one that coul also be good too, no magnet needed, less weight

It could be!! But hall effect sensors vary in their signal, and the speedo will likely be setup for a particular sensor...
Whereas most reed relay based setups are interchangeable, IIRC the same is not true of all hall effect sensors... though you might be lucky.... The
speedo sensors are rarely *that* expensive- the saving you might make by using that one would be fairly small compared to the hassle of it not
working....
I had a major PITA with my speedo (and that was using the correct sensor!!)..... I'd stick with the stock sensor....

You are not getting much for your money. It looks like the hall effect ic just has a bit of heat shrink around it and some wires attached. RS or
Farnell would be cheaper, although Farnell I notice has a £20 minimum order for credit cards.
