Charging at 14.5volts ?
Is this to high and could it be why i keep burning coil packs out, i replaced coil about 2 months ago because it started to miss and now its doing it
again.

14.5v at 2000 rpm = perfect for a modern car ---
As to coil packs standard Zetec plug gap is far too wide try reducing your plug gaps to something sensible like 0.032" (0.8 mm).
Plug gaps that are very wide can cause the spark to jump inside the coil pack. More likely to cause trouble in a turbo as the higher pressures inside
a turbo engine at the end of compression will make it even harder for the spark to jump across the plug so you need to narrow the plug gaps.

I'd reckon 14-14.5v is spot on, you would'nt want much higher but it's the norm.

Voltage sounds good, I take it that is at tick over. I would be interested to see what the voltage is at higher (about 3000 - 4000) rpm as I would
expect 12 - 12.5 at tick over. With an alternator the higher rpm the higher voltage is produced with the voltage rectifier/stabilser keeping the
voltage down to a maximum of 14.5v.
Zetecs do like a large pug gap, so the gap should not make a big difference, but you could try a smaller gap, however this could also affect the
timing requiring a slight re-maping. A smaller smaller cap might also increase the spark duration giving a longer/better burn. However this should
have been picked up on your recent rolling road session, so I would be tempted to leave the plug gap alone and check the alternator voltage output at
higher RPM as a starter.
Oh how are you feeling now, better I hope Kev. Any Idea on exhaust job yet mate.?

You want 12-12.5 battery voltage, 14-14.5 charging voltage at idle and anything above idle. Any less at idle and the alt isn't exciting properly
and reg is probably shot
But to answer your OP, 14.5 is ideal, could go a little higher, say 14.7 at a max, ,nothing to worry about and certainly won't cause any
problems

Some modern cars have inteligante charging where the ecu controls the charge rate to save fuel etc perhaps thiis has been over charging for to long
if you see what i mean
