Indicator problems again

Had a previous problem with the indicators. Made a new earthing point and it seemed fine.

A few days later went to take the car out and the indicators werent working either through the stalks or through the hazard switch.

When I push the hazard switch it lights up but no indicator lights come on also the relay clicks.

If i take the relay out and put a live feed to the wire to the indicator stalks then push the lever up the right hand lights light up but if I push down i get sparks from where im holding the other end of the wire which seems like a short somewhere in the left indicator wiring.

I dont know where to start looking for shorts really. Ive had a look round the column and stalks. The new earth I put in looks fine and that wouldnt explain why it seems to be shorting through the left side and that shouldnt stop the right side from working.

I cant understand why it would fine one day then a couple later it stops working.

Have tried another flasher relay and its the same.

I've just changed my left stalk for exactly that sort of problem, fiddle with the hazard switch and I could get my indicators working. Seems to quite a common fault.

Cheers
