cranking voltage problem?

Battery showing 12.2volts on digidash. On cranking it drops to 8volts with cranking stopping some times. If i turn it off and back on it will crank again with digidash showing 8volts... Knackered battery?

Voltage will drop when cranking. Normally to 10 volts or so. If cranking is stopping then I'd give the batery a full charge and see what it reads when cranking after that.

12.2 volts indicates your battery has insufficient charge.

Charge it properly (fully charged battery should show about 12.8 volts after being off charge for about 20 minutes.

Leave over night then check the cranking voltage.

Cranking voltage under 9 volts with a battery with a decent charge normally indicates a dead cell on the battery.
Normal cranking voltage should be about 10 volts.
