Emerald
When I first started putting the zetec in I rang Emerald to get a price for an ecu, they said if I waited until January there would be a new one out
and that the cost around £380, I rang today and still the only one they do is £550 and the new one will be another few months away.
Is there another ecu that is as good as Emerald? I can't wait for another few months as Stoneleigh is aproaching fast.
I have looked at megesquirt but I would rather buy one and know it will work and if it doesn't then the manf. can sort it. I don't have
time for more hold ups.
Any advised as usually would be a great help.
regards Mark

Mark,
Give Bill Shurvinton a shout...
bill at shurvinton.fsworld.co.uk
He should be able to sort you with an off the shelf MS (you really want a v3 MSnS-E board with extra VB921 to control ignition and fuel). Again, Bill
will be able to sort you out...

When I went Zetec I did quite a bit of research on this - my opinion being that the OMEX and Emerald systems are the best. I would say that for an
injection system the Emerald has v. slight advantage and for ignition only there is not much to choose (only cost).
I am running Webbers 45's, so only needed ignition and found that the OMEX system was cheaper and easier to get hold of (Bought mine from
Raceline with tuning manual and wiring loom, just plugged it in (3 wires) and away it went).

take a look at ebay; IIRC fully built MS v3 boards are being sold for around £220.

I used to use MBE till they moved away from the little guys like us! I'm now using OMEX and of course I rate their ECUs very highly but then I
know them all personally so I guess I would
The Emerald is good especially if you had a Rover K-series as a lot of the extreme engines run it.

I was dissappointed by Emerald when I was told they were 'too busy' to look at a V6 Duratec system. As a result I went to MBE - not cheap
but they are professional

DTA probably won't be the cheapest but plenty used and documented/supported.

The trouble with Emerald is they are just a small outfit but have a huge reputation. They do now try and push you towards going to a local agent...

Nothing but praise for Emerald. They do have a great following built on Dave Walkers knowledge!

Which, ironically, is also their downfall...great service, great product, pretty good customer service, not enough of them to go around....

They probably haven't had many requests for this application, so they wouldn't get a very good return on the time investment. AFAIK,
it's only Dave Walker and the firmware/electronics guy call Karl that develop the Emerald systems.

So looking at all the responses, although Emerald are expensives, they are the best. Looks like I better get some overtime in
Thanks for your opinions

I personally wouldn't necessarily say 'the' best (no bad experience or anything btw), but certainly one of the best value.
Ned.

The Omex 3d mapped and upgradeable electronic ignition system is 'only' £325 from RAW. May not include VAT
