Wiring Looms

I can't decide what to do, i don't know whether to try and wire my mx5 locost from scratch myself, or try to use the donor loom. but looking at the wiring diagrams for the mx5 just made me want to be sick.

I have looked at Painless wiring(im in the US) and they sell a pretty well priced modular loom which covers most of what is required in a basic locost . the only thing is that the loom is not aimed at EFI engines.

at the moment im thinking a painless loom would get me halfway and I could add in a few circuits myself. What do you think?

Whilst im sure i could use the mx5 loom, the last thing i want to be doing is spending the next 6 weeks of evenings shouting at mx5 wiring diagrams.

Is doing a scratch loom really is as easy as some people claim, is there a basic guide to vehicle wiring floating the web?

If people can point me in the right direction I would love to be able to say I built my own loom

thanks in anticipation

Liam Mc

It is really not as bad as you think.
In your mind, just seperate your engine from the main loom and treat it as another accessory.
If you have the car loom diagram, it is pretty simple to break the car ecu stuff down.
Most engine/ecu looms just unplug from the main loom.
All you need to do is find out the pins in that plug.
These normally are things like ign, engine senders (water, oil for dash), starter motor start feed. Sometimes there is an output pin to control relays that feed the fuel pump etc.
Just take your time and tackle each circuit seperately.
That is what I did on my Rover K16 engine.
