Fuelpump Relay.

I am working on my fuelsystem and now i have to put a Fuelpump relay in the loom, i was told that a simple 12v relay was good enough, so i found one i took out of a Sierra Donor with 5 pins and 12v but how do i know where the pins go to?

It has the numbers 1 to 5 on it and it is a big grey one probably from the rearwindscreen wiper.

Or is there a standard one on the market.

Tips are more then welcome.

Has it not go 30, 75,76 etc on it?

Not on this one, but i have a box full of them, i do recall seeing one with these numbers but these have only 4 pins, or can you also use this?

Do you have a diagram where these numbers go to then?

does anyone know why some ford relays have the pin numbers as 1,2,3,5 etc as opposed to 30, 85,87, etc ?

There are different terminal numbering systems in use. Older Din72552 uses 85, 86 for the switching current in and out and 30 for the switched supply and 87 for the switched output. Newer system, no doubt adopted for greater EU harmonisation substitutes 1 and 4 for switching and 2 and 3 for switched.
You can happily connect up one of the old ford four pin relays, yellow or red using 85 for earth and 86 for fused ignition live supply. If an ECU is doing the switching it will switch the earth. If you want a switch on the dash you can switch either or do without a switch and let the ignition live switch it. Fused battery live to 30 and 87 out to the pump. Consider impact or low oil pressure cut off relays somewhere in pump supply to stop the pump in case of a crash.
Be aware there are two different layouts for the old relays, some having 85 and 86 opposite each other and some having them adjacent.
