push button start
well i want a push button start. but is it worth of a sva test with this and how do i get on for security. its no good someone being able to jump in
the car press a button and wee off with it. but theres no point in inserting the key into the ignition then pushing the starter button, i might
aswell just use the key to start it then. what does everyone think??

Hi,
I use the key for ignition as this is one of the security measures required by SVA, but I then have the push button start.

Bob

so its like key in and turn 1 click, then push the button??? kind of defeats the point of a push button start does it not??

No i dont think so, how are you planning to switch on your ignition?
And as I said you still have the steering lock.

My buggy has a key for the steering lock but the starter button is live, shear lazyness on my part not to do it properly. Away, there’s been more than
one occasion that I’ve driven off with the steering still locked, once in a filling station which could have been nasty
So do route the starter button power through the ignition key…

2 methods to immobilise: steering lock and battery cut out.
if you wanted to, you could remove wires from the igniton barrel so it is just the steering lock you use and have your push start.
not sure if that will make you happy as you will still need to insert key to undo lock.
or else find another method to immobilise the vehicle.

i was origionally planning on having a switch for the fuel pump etc so i jump in, flick the switch and press the start button when the fuel pump had
created the pressure. But like i say that means anyone can jump in and be away in it. which is no good. Just need to find a way of immobilising it. do
i need a steering lock or just some way of immobilising the motor??

Ours is the same as above, turn the key to the 1st position to ulock the steering and ignition on, then you have the choice of turning the key more
(or if there are impressional kids looking) push the button. It's a savage switch and lights up with the ignition on.
I've got one of those Maplin transponder imobilisers for christmas so I'm gonna have a look at that in the new year, see if I can bypass
the ignition.

same here, works a treat, and looks cool!
as others have ignition light running through starter switch so lights up with ignition but goes out when engine starts
might be childish but does it for me

The VX220 has a push button start and a key switch ignition. There is even a crank position on the key switch which is just not wired in.
Push button starts are fashonable bling. You might as well have the crank on the key, unless you particularly want a shiny red start button.

A mate of mine had a Caterham R500 to which he'd fitted a proximity loop / transducer thingy in the drivers seat base. This operated a relay
for the starter button.
Provided he had the transmitter fob in his pocket, he could just jump in and hit the starter button.
Was a well cool solution IMHO.

Not sure if mr SVA will aprove but what about keyless entry system? If you could wire it to operate as click one on the ignition.
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

On mine i dont have steering lock or std key.
Immobilser, then key in and 1 turn, then push button start.
If you only want the push button then only option is to use the immobiliser that Mike refers to to switch the ignition on. After seeing Top Gear the
other week id just be worried about the transponder range. You dont want it to work really until you are in (or almost in) the car.

I think I went a little over the top. I've got immobiliser fob on the dash, key which does steering lock and turns on the feed to fuel pump
switch and ignition switches which are both on the dash next to the start switch.
