Wipers.

Just fitted some wipers to my Indy. I've seen a few people ask what set up to fit so I thought I would list the parts I used.

Started with a Mini 2 speed motor (off ebay £17+post) with rack and wheel boxes, it comes with a 110 deg gear.

2 Dax wiper arms and blades off a Rush, they cost £31 but cheaper than Europa parts. They are 8" blades which I thought too small but are just right.

Set of mini wheel box spacers and finishers.

Worked out a lot cheaper than buying new as most want about £150+ for new parts. All I needed to do was shorten the centre and motor rack tube which is easy, and mount the motor and wheel boxes.
I've set them up to park on the drivers side, which is not the norm for RHD but does give a better pattern (suspect thats why Dax/Westfield and Cateringvan do the same). Now no fear of Plod pulling me over. Stuck a pic on archive page.

did mine with misc parts mostly from a metro.

it was quite easy to cut and weld the linkage to the spacing I needed. got rid of the centre drive from the metro rack, mounted the motor seperatly and used the motor and linkage from a granada.

its a mix of bits but works well.

btw - if you need to shorten wiper arms, the metro ones can be cut and then butt welded and finished nicely with a grinder.

Thats a bit of the book I found rather lacking in info. Did you have to make some sort of bracket arrangement to fit the motor to the scuttle??? having not yet purchased the wiper motor or the windscreen I've been un able to play about, but an idea of how to mount them would be great. Any chance of some phot's please?

Cheers
Chris

I made my scuttle out of two 'goal posts' one at the bulkhead, and one at the dash.

I mounted the motor at the dash goalpost, and made two brackets come from the front goalposts to mount the mechanism to

Mine was a bit more simple. First thing to check is the sweep of the wiper blades, fined the best place then you can mark the mounting holes and fix the wheel boxes, get this wrong and you will end up farting about bending the arms so the wipers don't bash the screen edge. Once this is done easy job to cut the rack tube to length. I fixed the motor to the inside of the scuttle on the passanger side using a large rubber lined p clip bent out into a "U" shape. Most of the force to work the wiper is "held" within the motor/rack/wheel boxes so the motor does not need to be fixed to a chassis member. You can flare the rack tube with a large drill or old countersink bit, making very small cuts in the tube end to start it off.
