Wiring of Sierra low brake fluid switch
I've got a Sierra lid for the master cylinder reservoir and it has three connections. I've tried metering it and turning it upside down
(as I don't have a bath of brake fluid to dunk it in) but am not getting any readings that make sense.
Nor do I have a Sierra manual, unfortunately. I do have some wiring diagrams but they are 'not very good'.
Can anyone tell me which terminal does what?
TIA
John

Mine had corroded and had to pop it apart at sva! cleaned up a little washer and turned it the other way round and all was fine, maybe worth just
taking the top off, came apart dead easy.
Cheers

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Yes.
The outer two connectors are connected together. The middle connector closes with these two contacts when the level is low. Trouble is they corrode
very easily. I got loads off scrappy cars before giving up and buying some new....

i only had 2 wires connected to it...one was live, one was to the lamp. the other side of the lamp was earth and the handbrake switch was joined to
the same side as the level switch...essentially the same actually

Thanks for the replies, chaps, shame about the discrepancies
BenB says the middle contact is connected to the other two when the level is low. If this is the case, then Steve's diagram means that the light
will only work when the level is low. Pulling the handbrak on will not illuminate the lamp unless the level is low as well (which, of course, is not
the idea)
If BenB is right about the contacts, then the middle and bottom contacts (in Steve's drawing) need to be permanently joined together for the
lamp to light when the handbrake is pulled up whether or not the fluid level is low.

Hi John
You are correct
It is the two bottom ones in the drawing that are connected together
The handbrake wire does not have to go to the connector you can wire it direct to the warning light .
Coz thats what I did.
The handbrake switch earths the warning light.
Same as the res cap when the fluid is low

Looks like I was talking rawlocks then.....
To be honest it's a while since I whipped the top off one of the sensors.
If you want to double check just stick a screwdriver under the yellow cap and pop it off. It'll show the contacts quite clearly....
