Dodgy switch ?

I have a problem with my light's - they have packed up
When I parked it up the other night everything was working fine , but the next morning all I have working at the front is one side light (instrument and back lights are OK )
Main beam works on the flasher , but I have no dip or main on the column switch - I'm thinking it's the switch ?
Any one got a Mk2 Escort column switch lying around - or any ideas on fixing this ?

A cheap multi meter would be worth buying, I can’t see it being the column switch tbh, they last forever, more likely connector has broken or the relay has jammed. I’d check with a meter before dismantling the switch gear as most tend to explode into small parts and flying springs it you try to take them apart. A friend fell into this trap with his MKII golf in the dark too bit all over the place, broke a part trying to put it back together which he then had to order from e-bay and turned out to actually be a bad earth near the lights

Are the rear side lights OK? Can be the switch but it wouldn't normally effect the some sidelights and headlights. There used to be a wire that broke on the switch that put the head's off. Suspect the side light is a bulb out (red herring).

I had exactly the same problem some years back pre SVA,a bit of pannicking went on and a lot of head scratching between myself and theconrodkid. In the end we found the NEW headlight relay was faulty, changed the relay for an old type from a Mk2 escort i had sripped

It's a Mk2 Escort loom , so there are no relays for the lights - and since the main beams work on the flasher , that rules out a bad earth , surely ?
I do agree that the one dead sidelight could be a bulb , I'll just have to find my multi-meter.........no idea where thats gone
