my coil and its bloody wiring...

Hello everybody!

im trying to put my coil and the rest of the ignition system back together, but there are a few loose ends. its a 1600 CVH engine. Basically, the -ve terminal on the coil is simple, that just comes from the 6 wire module. And obviously the HT lead goes to the distributor. However, on the -ve side there is an array of black plugs, plus a little black thing that is held down by the coil mounting screw on the original. i think this may be a supressor but im not sure. So far, i have two of the black plugs joined together, one going to the carb (not sure why, that bit just felt right...) but there is still one free. And its this one that puzzles me, cos i dont remember one being free in the donor. Any ideas what this one is meant to do?

And before anyone says i should've labelled them, i did, but masking tape and biro dont seem to survive the test of time...

i havent actually tried turning it over properly yet, is it worth checking for a spark as it is? no fuel yet so not much chance of fireworks...!

Thanks in advance for any help anyone, its all for a good cause - getting my car finished and me out of this place for a few hours!

silly me, i just looked at the haynes diagram and it made a little more sense...!

looks like there is meant to be an ignition live thrown in somewhere, and the carb thing may be the fuel shutoff valve. I'll go back out and have another look i guess.

still, on the diagram there is no mention of the little black box, and the live is meant to be a branch off the module feed, which doesnt exist in my loom. time will tell i guess...

basically the -ve has to go to the distributor or electronic version thereof, the big wire in the middle is the ht (doh) and the +ve goes....... wild guess here,,,,, to the live feed

HOWEVER does your coil need a ballast resistor in the +ve supply.........it can be a section of resistive cable in the loom

atb

steve

gotcha worried now......?

on mine, the neg comes from the module and also branches to the revcounter. The module also has two wires to the inductive trigger on the distributor.

My problem is i always see the feed as -ve cos i forget its negative earth...

in that light, it seems quite obvious i guess

all should be well tommorow then! famous last words and all that...

Its sparks!!!!!!

The bar steward worked first time! get in there sausage... i left the fuel cutoff wires in and just put a branch off the feed to the module, and binned the supressor.

Thanks for all the help guys, might be the big bang tomorrow now!
