Homebrew Cruise Control?

Having taken R4 to the stoneleigh show, you quickly realise how tiring it is even on the back roads, trying to keep a constant 30 or 60 in these sort of cars. I kept reaching for the cruise control!

Has anyone heard of any DIY type cruise control boxes?

James

i saw on a really old car a lever you pull to set the throttle constant. Bit like a choke lever but connected to the throttle.

very basic and obviously wont cancel under braking etc

Not sure that would be road legal

I used to have a sparkrite one about 20 years ago which basically held the throttle but had a rotary dial to apply/release more pressure if you hit hills etc (also connected to your brake light switch and would release if you braked)
Basically rubbish!
You need one with clever electronics to do this for you.
Do a search on google as there are aftermarket systems out there.

I don't know why you want to keep adding weight to the car!
What next? Electric windows/ air conditioning!

I don't have any information about after market units, but will say that I use the cruise control on my tin top a LOT. I love it and find it tremendously useful.

JCBs have them.
- Only ment for use when digging, but a lot of people use them for roading.

Pressing the acclerator pedal pulls it off, then you can release the pedal. And the brakes are also that good they will stall the torqueconverter out quite readly.
But yeah, its happen some where on a road near you, with about 8tonnes fo yellow metal!

Cruise control can't weigh that much can it?

It's good for freaking out people too when you bring your feet right away from the pedals too

Yeah it was hidden away at the back of the MK stand!

It's OK I wasn't actually there long - took it for a blat in the early afternoon, but clutch seemed to be playing up so I headed back while the going was good - Got home fine so I think it just needs a bit of a bleed...
