S2000/F20c Alternator wiring

Hello everybody,

We (my father and I) are building a VM77 kitcar with a F20c/S2000 engine. We want to instal an aftermarket ECU so we have a custom wiring. At this moment we are preparing the car for the first start. Now we want to wire the alternator but some (most) of the cables we can't connect because we dont have the standard ECU.

The connectors of the alternator can be seen in the picture below:

My first thoughts are:
connecting the black (+) wire to the +side of the battery
connecting the black/yellow wire to the +12v contact with the ignition switch.

and that's it.

Is this right? Or will the alternator not work?

Thanks already!!!

...and the White/Blue lamp bit.

The regulator may need a signal from the ECU too....but prob not.

2 chances I guess , withouit knowing the complexities of the reg unit. What is the interesting loop thing by No 42, some sort of load detection?

I suspect you wont do a lot of harme experimenting, failing that , surely a change of alternator with a 2 wire output would not be hard

Must the White/Blue lamp be connected to let the alternator work?

We can't start the engine, so testing is difficult. We can rotate the alternator with the drill but only to a maximum of 1500 rpm which is I think to slow to work well.

what ecu are you using? your best bet is to ring the ecu manufacturer and ask them. i'd suggest ringing andy at omex as i'm sure he'd know the answer but if you're not using omex, i don't know how happy he'd be to take the call!

We want to use a KMS motor management ECU. It's dutch and the dealer is nearby.

So calling OMEX is not a very good idea i think

You don't need the two ECU connections, works fine with just the Ign switched 12V (Blk/Yel) to activate, and the indicator light (Wht/Blu). And of course the connection to battery +ve! Don't know if you actually need the indicator light connection for the system to work.

Thanks PeteS2k. Right now the engine is running well and I assume that the alternator works well. The voltage of the accu is around 14,5 volt.

We have connected the BLK/YEL wire and the WHT/BLU wire with light bulb.

But is it normal that the alternator uses about 6 amps (70 watt) when the engine is not running but the ignition is turned on?
