I made one.
I used this kit.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/super-stereo-ear-kit-32208
It also needed a few headphone sockets and a few switches, which allowed it to switch between both headphones listening to iPod, satnav etc, or
listening to each other. When listening to iPod it doesn't use any battery and just pipes the sound through.
I put the microphones on flying leads and taped them to the headphones at about mouth level.
It worked for a LeMans trip in a 7.
Not sure on total cost as some of the bits (i.e. the box) were junk from work and I already had the headphones, but probably about £25 if all bought
new.

I did alot of research when looking for intecoms and ended up spending about £150 for a full kit. It has served me well and in hiensight I would say
that if you just want two people to chat with helmets on that are sat side by side then try and make your own.
Electronic knowledge required obv.
I wanted a kit that had seperate volume control, mp3 input and radio connection for car to car talking.
Give it a go. If you spend £60 on it and are happy then thats a good saving.
