alternator wiring

I'm having some alternator issues and questioning the wiring.

Are alternators normally connected to a permanent live, or switched? This is a zzr1100 engine.

Is it an alternator or a stator (tecnically thats a type of alternator) feeding a rectifier and that feeds to the battery? Bike usually have the second.

Bike engine usually connects the output from rectifier via a main switched relay/solenoid to battery +ve.
A car alternator output is connected direct to battery +ve, unswithed.

I think this is a case of me not reading the manual properly. I assumed brown was +ve and white was ground

It looks like both wires are +ve (one switched). Ground comes from the alternator body to engine connection.
