regulator mounting

Having moved all of my loom in to the dash I need to mount the regulator, does it have to be mounted on ally for heat dispersion??

well I don't know what regulator you are talking about but it depends on the power going through it.

For example Land Rover voltage regulator, small metal box, used on myany other British cars, sits on back of speedo in free air.

If the regulator has a metal tab, that would normally impley it likes to sit on metal to transfer heat away.

One thing to be aware of is does the tab need to be insulated from the metal; usually the tab is ground.

Any idea what is powered by it (lamps/instruments etc

Sorry, without knowing exact details, can't advise but connect it in free air, hold it, turn on and see how hot it gets, if you cannot hold it in your hand, then heatsink is required.

mine is just cable tied to a convinient chassis tube, away from the exhaust but hanging free. Worked well for a few months and a trackday now.
