lucas condensor identificatoin help required.

Right after loosing spark I have had a bit of a result.

My breakerless ignition on the v8 has an amplifier unit that the coil is bolted to.

decided that I would have a look inside and see what I could find. low and behold there was somthing that looked like a condensor from a points ignition system.

So thinking along the lines that these can and do go bad, I would swap it for one from a spare points dizzi I have lying about. put it all back together and I now get a spark from the main HT lead that will jump 3/4 of an inch and yes it did zap me while i was testing

So I need to identify the assumed buggered Condensor that I have removed and see if I can get a replacement.

Its a lucas condensor 1MF D 54400556

now after a bit of googling the '1mf' bit seems to be the power bit but I am at a loss as to how to find a replacement of the correct rating.

It does not help that i dont know what an 'MF' is or the fact that the temporary one used for testing has no markings.

Any help or pointers or explanation on how a condensor works may assist me in getting a replacement or anyone that can point me in where i can get one

Many thanks

Thought of fitting Megajolt to it?

Picked up that VEMS ECU last night

but plumbing it in before Harrogate

Thinking that I will leave the condensor as is and carry a spare in my bag of bits.

without trying to be funny, try a lucas dealer. These are guys which deal with the trade and generally stock catalogues which cover every Lucas car electrical application ever made. A local car electrical engineer or maybe an internet search should help to find them.

I used a company called Parkinsons who are the local agent in Lincoln today and they might be able to give you a contact number in your area.
They won't be Lucas specifically, but will cover Bosch etc.

Hope this helps

The condensor will also not be rated at 12volts! It has to be able to accept the peak primary voltage which may be as high as 200-300volts, even with points.
