Mallory dual point distributor/coil wiring for Luego Viento V8
Hi All
I am possibly being really thick but I am not certain how to wire my distributor coil and ballast resistor up.
Unless I am being more blind than normal the distributor only has the HT leads coming off it (no other wiring) and the coil has the HT connector and a
+ve and -ve terminal. I also have a ballast resistor for this that also has 2 terminals, a +ve and an unlabelled. From the Viento viring loom I have 2
wires that are labelled "Coil" (a white and a white/black) and the wiring instructions for the Viento state under "Engine
connections":
Coil +ve White
Techo White/Black
So... am I right to assume:
1. The white cable in the Viento loom goes to the +ve on the ballast resistor
2. A new cable goes from the ballast reisitor to the coil +ve
3. the white/black cable from the Viento wiring loom goes to the -ve terminal on the coil? (and that feeds the Tacho?)
Any help would be really appreciated.

Not being familiar with the loom you have. I am assuming its one supplied by Luego.
Check the other ends of those coloured wires to see here they come from.
One will be a supply (switched by the ignition key) that goes to the ballast resistor, then a new wire from the other side of the ballast resistor to
the +ve on the coil. From the -Ve of the coil to the points on the Dizzy.
I assume that you have a Coil that needs a Ballast resistor. ie the type of coil will dictate whether you need a ballast resistor or not.
If the other wire comes from the bunch of wires in the instrument cluster, then that should be the wire for the Tacho. You need to wire this up
acording to the instructions for your rev counter / tacho.
Depending on what rev counter you have will dictate where to connect the wire.
Its not that hard, and depends on what kit you are fitting. I would expect it to go on the -ve side of the coil. Again, it may not do, Just follow
the instructions that come with the Rev counter to be sure.
1. The point of a journey is not to arrive.
2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Hi Geoff
Thanks for the reply it helped a lot (i.e. nearly got that wired in today!)
I did e-mail RPi (where I got the new kit from several months ago) and they agree. The 1 thing we were missing is a 12volt feed that goes directly to
the +ve terminal of the coil during starting/cranking. I am assuming I can spur off the starter cable that feeds the starter solenoid for that one.
Cheers

Yes you can but depends if you want it fused or not as I suspect your Starter cable isnt.
It would certainly work for testing purposes
