Starter Relay
I think I have a problem with this off my ZX9. I've tested it by putting power onto the two contacts that would come from the igniton switch and
it clicks on but there's no power reading at the starter motor point.Should this be constant power or just a brief flash to turn the motor. I
feel like I'm not thinking of summat here!

You need a big FO power lead to one side of the solenoid from the battery. The other side goes to the starter motor.
Once engaged you will have a permanent feed to the starter motor as long as you keep the power connected across the low current side of the
solenoid.
Sounds like you are only conecting the feed and earth from the ignition switch? Apologies if i misread your post.

No no its me explaining it badly sorry. I've had it all wired in and stuff just as you say, the relay clicks but starter motor won't turn
over. If I put a direct feed to the starter then it works fine so thats how I've come to the conclusion that the relays knackered, possibly.
I've got it off and am testing it as per Haynes manual by putting power to the contacts, get the click, which is good but got no power reading
at the starter contact, didn't know if it was just a pulse that happened and I was missing it cos my multi meter has a digital readout.

Sounds like the solenoid might be knackered in that case

Yeah was thinking so too. Thanks for the opinion, I weren't too sure.

Check the earth lead that earths the starter motor is making good contacts both ends - my scimitar solenoid just clicks when the engine earthing is
poor
If at first you don't succeed, hide all evidence you ever tried!
